If the optimum conditions are in place for a ground source heat pump it will deliver 4kW of energy to your home for every 1kW of energy put into the machine (That’s 400% efficient as opposed to a boiler efficiency of 91%). The pump draws energy from the ground, therefore cooling it, and transfers it at a higher temperature to the water in your heating system.
